Little Mermaid

So when the troupe announced that it would be doing The Little Mermaid as a fall musical this year, McKenzie was not excited at all.  She was hoping to do something like Hello Dolly!, Thoroughly Modern Millie or even Little Women, anything with two female leads other than The Little Mermaid (although that was on my list)  In the end though she finally accepted the fact that they weren't going to be doing a traditional musical and that a Disney Musical would be fun.  She tried out  for the role of Ursula which was a big thing for her.  You see, Kenzie really wanted to be the star of the show and she probably could have been cast as Ariel.  However, her best friend Anna was a natural for the part of Ariel and I encouraged her to  let Anna have that part and for her to go with Ursula, a lesser role but a big role nonetheless.  Anyway, I was proud when she took my advice and set the part of Ariel aside for her best friend.  It was a mature thing to do.  Especially for someone who looked forward to being the star of the show from her freshman year on.

She was a terrific Ursula and her friend, Anna did a wonderful job as Ariel creating a magical experience despite the fact that Prince Eric couldn't really sing...(ya, really he couldn't sing or act).

Here are some links if you want to see Kenzie live on youtube.

I didn't get the Poor Unfortunate Souls reprise because my camera ran out of battery :(  (Brad told me to bring an extra and I didn't heed his advice.

Here's my favorite pictures from the show of both Kenzie and Anna.
